GST Motorsports secures 1st place and breaks the track record at the Super Lap Battle qualifier event Firebird, Phoenix, AZ

Firebird International Raceway, AZ, 04/12/10 – The GST Motorsports Time Attack Racing Team secured first place in the opening round of Super Lap Battle qualifications this past weekend, and in the process broke the existing Super Lap track record by nearly half a second with a lap time of 1:01.66.

"GST Motorsports put a great car together, once again", said Gary Sheehan, driver of the GST Time Attack Subaru L. "The car ran strong through each of the Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout events and was really quick during the Super Lap Battle qualifying session. The car is the fastest it has been in the time I've driven it and Mike kept me at a conservative boost level. I'm itching to get out on track in this thing at full-tilt to see what it is really capable of."

Mike Warfield, owner and engine tuner of GST Motorsports, had this to say about the team’s event; “Given the issues we encountered at our last outing (RTA Buttonwillow) last month it was really important to the team to get a good result this weekend. I feel a little bad for Gary as he’s not driven this car since November last year and we were not able to give him any real seat time at this event, or prior to it, to give him a feel for all the changes we’ve made. Couple that with the whole weekend being part of the Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout, I was also reluctant to run the car at full power to give us the best chance to complete all the events. I feel I owe him a ride at full tilt in the very near future!”

GST Motorsports would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support: Hankook Tires, Cosworth, Nakid Clothing, Wheeldude.com, JE Pistons and DCCDPro.

Next up for the GST Motorsports team is Redline Time Attack - Las Vegas Motorsports, NV 04/24-25.

A new website from the ground up has been in the works for RedLine Time Attack and the new splash page and logo is up while the site progresses to goes live. I've been told the new site will offer online registration and classification wizards with car/driver performance data including lap times at events.

I was at the last Willow Springs Track day where the new Redline Crew was testing an RFID lap timing system which was spot on and only requires a small piece of tape with a mini RFID transponder embedded in it. No more bulky transponders and zipties! The new system was able to track times in different zones and could even tell if a car was overdue in a certain segment of the track.

Very cool and high tech stuff going on over at Redline for the new 2010 season! I think with the new backing and Nicolas being onboard fulltime, Redline is moving from successful grassroots to pro event status.

Keep an eye on their website http://www.redlinetimeattack.com for the update to complete!

It seems like these track days just don't come often enough. Or maybe they come too frequently, as the cost of maintaining a car like the GT-R for the track is quite high, especially when it is also your daily driver. Then there is the unexpected tweak that can try the best laid plans.

After going to the ROVAL in November, I was sure that I could knock down my times some more. I even thought I might be able to drop from a 1:55 to a 1:49. I'd been looking forward to this track weekend for some time. This past week, on Tuesday, I made a short road trip with my wife. On the way home, the car started running roughly. My first thought was, "Oh shit, I'm going to miss the track weekend." Long story short, it turned out to be a bad aftermarket injector. The diagnosis was made Thursday morning. I was supposed to be at HB Speed by 1 pm that day for a dyno retune and a Traqmate install. The car wasn't done until 5 pm. Jon at HB was informed the whole day of the progress. I left my house at 6:30 pm and got to HB at 8:30. Get this: Jon meets me at the shop, drops me off at my hotel, and dyno tunes my car for the stock injectors until midnight. Then I get picked up the next day and he does the Traqmate install. THAT is customer service beyond reproach.

After getting to my hotel that night, I met up with Greg S. and his Son Walker for a couple of drinks. Good times.

After getting to the track, I remembered Jon had told me to reflash the map on my car, as he had changed one thing prior to finishing the tune. I did that first thing in the morning, and the Cobb AP "errored," and entered "recovery mode." Apparently this means the AP has to be uninstalled, and then reinstalled. Crap, time for the driver's meeting.

The whole time during the driver's meeting, I'm agonizing over the fact that I never saved the OEM map when I flashed the car the very first time. What if the car has a blank ECU after uninstalling the AP and it won't start? After the meeting, I did the uninstall, and then reinstalled using Jon's updated map. IT WORKED! That was a huge relief.

The track weekend was great! We all had a blast flying up the front straight, experiencing ungodly G's in the NASCAR turn, and ripping it up in the infield. What a fun track! Great times, Greg and Walker, too bad you guys couldn't stay for Sunday.

The next day was even better. All car troubles were behind me. But then, never underestimate the hotel front desk. My 5 am wakeup call never came. I rolled over when I woke up and looked at the clock: 7:05...F@#k!!! I jump in the shower, throw on some jeans and a shirt and drive to the track to make registration and to secure a garage space. My bud Selva had my back. He knew I was coming this day, so he saved me a prime garage space next to his. Oh yeah, and I have 12 miles left of gas. After I register, back to town, get gas, gather my belongings from my room and check out. When I mention the wake-up call, "oh, it wouldn't accept it when I entered it, so I left a note for the next guy, but he's a trainee. I guess it didn't get corrected. Sorry." I'll be finding a new track weekend hotel.

Anyway, with all that behind me, this was another track day. There were a few GT-R's this day, as well. This time, I was watching my track times drop, and ranking higher in the Black group hierarchy. By the third session, I got FTD in the Black group at 1:53.401. The rain started so I abandoned the fourth session, as did many others.

I realized that my goal of a 1:49 was a pipe dream. Nonetheless, I was very happy with a 1:53 and FTD in the Black (high-intermediate) group.

Today, I was playing around with the Traqmate software and analyzing my sessions. Two things were apparent. First, my "theorectical best lap" (taken by breaking down the track by sections and taking the best of each for each lap) was a 1:51. Second, at the end of the front straight and T1, I'm leaving seconds of easy time and plenty of speed on the table.

Pipe dream, maybe not. Maybe next time out, I'll shoot for a 1:48. :) Then again, watch out for the car gremlins and the hotel front desk. Just because you can't see them does not mean they are not out to get you.

Happy Tracking,

Dry Carbon Fiber, Explained

We get this question a lot at ApexKings (http://www.apexkings.com/). "What is dry carbon, and why is it better?"

"Dry Carbon" is a term only used...

We get this question a lot at ApexKings. "What is dry carbon, and why is it better?"

"Dry Carbon" is a term only used in aftermarket automotive. Go to a carbon fiber shop, ask for a dry carbon part, and they will laugh. To carbon guys, "dry carbon" is a weak spot in a carbon part. There isn't enough resin to structurally bond the layers of carbon in an area of the part. The carbon appears "dry", and you throw the part out.

Making a carbon part requires getting multiple layers of carbon cloth on a mold, and fusing them all together with a resin. There are many ways to do this, all with cost / time / and performance tradeoffs. Here's an example of a classic wet layup.

In the automotive aftermarket, Dry Carbon is loosely associated with Pre-Preg. I say loosely because many parts are labeled "dry carbon" but are not made from pre-preg carbon.

Pre-preg means that the carbon fiber comes with the correct amount of resin already added to the fabric, Pre-Impregnated. It's usually stored in rolls, in a freezer. The freezer keeps the resin from curing.

Multiple shapes are cut from the roll and layed in a mold to form the part. Pre-preg is often also cured in an autoclave. This high temperature, high pressure tank (think huge pressure cooker) produces parts with a higher strength to weight ratio than a traditonal wet lay, vacuum bagged part. There are many advantages to pre-preg. Most notably, less voids (air bubbles), more compaction (layers of CF closer together), and the correct ratio of resin to carbon. Too much resin - the part is brittle and heavy. Too little resin - the carbon is "dry" and the part is weak.

Everything else is some form of wet layup. The carbon cloth comes in a roll like any other fabric. The resin is then applied layer by layer (traditional wet lay), injected in with pressure and or vacuum (infusion), or any of a number of other methods. Interestingly, this carbon starts out "dry". I've heard manufactures call their parts "dry carbon" because of this.

So how can you tell? It's best to check the edges and the weave pattern. Look at the foot of an S2 wing, and compare that to your part. The S2 foot is a very complex shape. However, the weave is perfectly formed. Why? The resin on the pre-preg holds the fibers in place when you lay it into the mold. The edges of seams are very scrips. Again, the resin keeps the ends from fraying.

If the edges on your part are frayed, or the weave looks distorted, it's probably not pre-preg. If there is a lone carbon fiber strand in the middle of your part, it's probably not pre-preg. Weather or not it's "dry carbon" is open to interpretation.

The Dynamic Wing S2 is made from the same CF used in F1 cars - high tensile strength carbon, toughened epoxy resin, autoclaved, pre-preg. The R2 carbon fiber wing is wet lay. They're both great wings. The S2 is just lighter.

This video is more of a community video with a little bit of drifting thrown in there. I wanted to make something that shows the people and friends of vegasdrift. 2009 was a great year for vegasdrift and we’re going to keep it rollin’ into 2010.

VD15 was a great event and I’m glad I was there to capture some of the moments. I mainly shot the beginning of the day and the competition. After the competition people where laying it down everywhere. I hope everybody had a blast this year and I’ll see you at VD16.

I tried to edit a totally different style this video. It’s still not heavy on the effects. I’m trying to develop different concepts that haven’t been really done before. Its the first drift video I’ve seen with so much back and forth.

I hope you enjoi it.

Trackmasters Racing TMR 2010 Updated Track Schedule

Got this from Doug at Trackmasters Racing (http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/).

As many of you are aware, TMR and most of the other track clubs...

Got this from Doug at Trackmasters Racing.

As many of you are aware, TMR and most of the other track clubs in the region have now posted their 2010 schedules. However, if you look closely at the TMR event list and our format changes this season you'll quickly realize that we have the best 'bang' for your track buck for events at all the region's tracks!

What's Changing? We realize that the economy is still struggling and drivers are watching their dollars and 'shopping' events. With this in mind, we're changing the format for many events this season to satisfy all of our drivers needs. Our most significant concern to date has been how to reduce prices without reducing the quality of our events. Maintaining a proper balance of cars on track is critical to safety and your overall experience. Adding more cars to lower prices is good for some but not acceptable for those of us that want quality track time. Let's face it, more cars on track means more stress on track, increased risk, traffic, more downtime due to mechanicals & tows, and less open track & clean laps. Nothing comes without a price, so consider our program features before you go spend your track dollars on a 'cheap' event. That said, we're proud to say that we've come up with a solution that meets or exceeds our current quality levels, reduces your event fees, and in the process buys each of you even more track time!

'Variable Pricing Program' - The most significant change this season is our move from a 4 to 3 run group format for many of our events this season. Simply put, this means more quality track time for your track buck! To do this we're implementing a program that gives TMR drivers a couple of choices when attending an event. This program essentially allows half of you to attend an event at one price and run a 3 run group format (the 'Tier 1' price), and the other half pay a reduced price for slightly less track time.(the 'Tier 2' price) Tier 2 drivers will receive 2 fewer session on track, but the same or as much as 10 additional minutes of track time than a typical 4 run group event. In the case of Infineon or Thunderhill, this means Tier 1 drivers will have approximately 160 ~ 140 minutes(respectively) of track time vs. the typical 110 minutes at another event, and Tier 2 drivers will have 110 ~ 120 minutes. (respectively) Unlike other clubs, we're reducing fees WITHOUT adding cars to the track! The result is more track time, the same quality event you expect from TMR, and of course..... reduced prices!

Almost forgot...There's another side benefit of this program for the Tier 1 drivers. If Tier 2 drivers are consuming roughly half of a run group and running 2 fewer sessions throughout the day, that means 2 sessions of the day will essentially have half the drivers, which translates to no traffic and nothing but open track!

First Events of the 2010 Season!
1. Saturday, February 6th at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. The cost for 'Tier 1' is $265 (2hrs 40 min), and 'Tier 2' is $200 (2 hours) This is an incredible price for this event, and $100 ~ $140 less expensive than other clubs pricing for a 4 run group day! Again, the event will be sold 50% Tier 1, and 50% Tier 2, so don't wait too long to grab a slot of your choice! Run groups planned for this event are: Advanced, Mixed (combo of High Intermediate and some Advanced drivers), and Low Intermediate. Registration is open now.

2. Laguna Seca on Monday, February 22nd. This event won't have VPP pricing due to how this particular track operates, but we will be running this as a 3 run group format! The cost for this event is $245, which is $80 to $100 cheaper than other clubs running 4 run group events! Run groups planned for this event are Advanced, Mixed (combo of High Intermediate and some Advanced drivers), and Low Intermediate. Registration is open now.

3. Thunderhill is our next event on Friday, Feb 26th with 'Tier 1' at $195 (2hrs 20 min) and 'Tier 2' at $155.(1hr 50 minutes - minimum) That's $50 to $140 cheaper than others offering less track time at T-Hill. Again, we are NOT adding more cars to reduce our prices! Run groups planned for this event are Advanced, Mixed (combo of High Intermediate and some Advanced drivers), and Low Intermediate. Registration is open now.

After these dates our next event is a 2 dayer at Laguna on March 4th and 5th, which will most likely be 3 run group formats. This event and the balance of the events we have planned for 2010 can be viewed on the www.trackmasters-racing.com home page. Registration will open next week for this event.

'TrackPacks' - Our always popular 'TrackPacks' and Season passes will be released between Christmas and New Years, so keep an eye out for those as they will provide even more savings for those of you who 'just can't get enough'!

Charity Infineon Event - Our thanks go out to all of you who attended the Nov 21 event at Infineon. Your participation and contributions helped us donate over $5100 to Infineon's Childrens Charity! You can be proud to know that there are families in the region benefiting from your contribution this holiday season.

Car for sale - I've been on the fence about selling this car, but I've got too many cars & projects so this one has to go. It's a 1973 914-6, with a freshly rebuilt 2.7L RS Spec motor(built by GD Racing), dyno'd 178hp at the rear wheels, new paint, suspension, brakes, etc. Just needs fresh track rubber, the roll cage welded in, seats & harnesses mounted. Car + many extra parts goes on e-bay first week of January unless one of you buy it first! Pics can be accessed from the 'Race Cars for Sale' button on the TMR homepage. www.trackmasters-racing.com

Hotel Majestic in San Francisco - One of our own(Frank Bramante), has taken over the management of the Hotel Majestic in San Francisco and has also opened the Uptown Joe's restaurant. Frank is making this elegant and very historic facility(built in 1902) available to us at special rates and discounts.

If you are planning a trip to the city for business, entertertainment or heaven forbid to take the wife or girlfriend shopping (there goes those new rims), check out their fantastic rooms, special events facilities, meeting rooms and enjoy some of San Francisco's best Italian - American comfort food. If you are looking for a place to spend New Years Eve they are offering special event packages deals also for rooms, food and entertainment.

For Track Masters regulars ,if you mention "Doug Sent me!" the valet parking will be 1/2 price. If you are staying over to party or you tip a few too many of their specialty cocktails in the 'Butterfly Lounge', Frank will offer free room upgrades. That's better than a couple of free tanks of 110 racing fuel!

The Majestic is located just three blocks north of Japan Town and two blocks west of Van Ness. Very centrally located just minutes from all your favorite SF business and entertainment destinations. Hotel Majestic 1500 Sutter Street (Sutter and Gough) 415 441 1280 Uptown Joe's or 415 441 1100 hotel.
Happy Holidays, and we look forward to seeing you in the paddock very soon!

Dear Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park Supporters,

Thank you all very much for your continued support of FBMP. We are nearing the home stretch for L.A. county approval of the project and hoping we can count on your support once again.

As you may recall from my letter in September, we were very encouraged at the first hearing by the County Planning Commission’s staff recommendation of the project for approval. We were then scheduled for our second public hearing on December 2, but it was recently postponed and the location changed by the county. The new date is Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lancaster Regional Public Library, 601 W. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, Calif. Please plan to attend the hearing if you can.

As you may have guessed, opponents asked for a change of venue that they hope will benefit their cause. As with the first hearing, interested persons can attend and will have an opportunity to testify. We had a great turnout of supporters last September in Los Angeles but with the second hearing relocated to Lancaster, your support is even more important. We hope you can join us.

Many of you have called asking ‘what can we do?’ We need more letters of support!

The county is again accepting letters as part of its consideration of the project. Opposition groups have organized their own letter writing campaign and have sent over 100 letters since the first hearing. If you did not send a letter of support prior to the first hearing, you have another chance to be heard.

Letters should be addressed to Mr. Jodie Sackett, Los Angeles County, Department of Regional Planning, Room 1382, 320 West Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Alternatively, you can e-mail Jodie: jsackett@planning.lacounty.gov with a copy to us.

You can also send your support comments directly to Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Mike Antonovich via e-mail at: FifthDistrict@lacbos.org. If you do, please make sure to copy Jodie Sackett.

If you would like to read about the project in detail and view updates, all of the official documents (including the Draft Environmental Impact Report) can be viewed on the county’s Web site:

http://planning.lacounty.gov/case/vi...e_motorsports/

We have been working for seven years toward the dream of creating the first new dedicated road racing facility in the L.A. area in over fifty years. We’re closer to approval than ever, but not there yet. If you too want to see Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park become a reality, please let your voice be heard!
Thank you again for your support.

Respectfully,
Thomas E. Malloy

--

Some info on the track:

An outstanding new racetrack is on the verge of being built in north Los Angeles County. Situated about 14 miles northwest of Lancaster alongside a 300 foot-high desert butte, the 322-acre property is secured and designs for a world-class 3.6-mile road course with extensive facilities are complete. If approved by the County of Los Angeles, Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park will be LA’s first new dedicated road racing facility in over 50 years.

This beautiful new motorsports park design has been in the works for over seven years and is planned for car and motorcycle club road racing, auto manufacturer vehicle testing, car and motorcycle magazine evaluations, special events and more. The track will be open to the public—no memberships required—although large commercial events are not in the plans. Instead, Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park (FBMP) will cater to the innumerable grassroots racers and enthusiasts that so often look to Southern California to fulfill their motorsports desires.

Creating a world-class road racing facility that is exciting, safe and easy on the environment requires highly skilled and experienced people. And when Malloy went looking for a great track designer, Alan Wilson stood out among people in the know. Wilson and his company, Wilson Motorsport, Inc., have designed some of the best new tracks in the U.S in recent years. Standouts include Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and Las Vegas Speedway in Nevada. Indeed, more than 20 of his designs dot the North American landscape, with several more under development in the U.S. and around the world.

Nestled against the relaxing backdrop of Fairmont Butte, Wilson has created an intriguing 3.6-mile layout that can easily be divided into two separate tracks. It was designed to fit the natural landscape with minimal disturbance and is multi-configurable, adding more interest for racers and additional value for anyone that needs testing variety. Generous smooth runoff areas deliberately support safety for both cars and motorcycles.

Malloy Family Partners, LP also recognizes the potential impact such an enterprise can have on the environment and have worked hard to ensure the design and operation of the track will minimize the environmental footprint.

How to get good on-car/in-car video footage

As many of you know, I do car video (http://www.craiglieberman.com). And I get paid for it (usually). But since most of my friends want car video,...

As many of you know, I do car video. And I get paid for it (usually). But since most of my friends want car video, and I certainly can't be everywhere, the next best thing I can do is to help others do it for themselves.

First off, don't be intimidated. Today's consumer cameras are less expensive than you think. You can get a usable High Definition camera for as little as $99. Moving upscale, you can get a pretty good one for $300, and there are others that offer more option at the $500 and $900 price points.

In this post, I'll show you what to get, where to get it, how to mount them and what not to do. If you've ever looked for one source to figure it out, here it is.

Let's start with the basics....just what you need.

EQUIPMENT
Your on car/in car cameras need to resilient enough to survive extreme vibrations, produce a quality image and hopefully, affordable and easy to operate.

Then you need a way to mount the camera(s).

There are many choices for cameras. Many, many choices. We've tried a boat load of them and have narrowed down the choices to a select few FOR you.

You have two basic categories:
Sports-style cameras (those specially designed to be small, portable and durable)
and "consumer" cameras (those designed to be used for a variety of purposes)

SPORTS STYLE
Here is a comparison of several "point of view" (sports video)

http://vholdr.com/contourhd/videos?vid=7

For starters, most of these cameras ( sports-style) record in the lower "standard definition" format. Do you need High Definition? Hell yes.

Since the cameras are virtually the same price, why bother with SD? That rules out a bunch of those cameras right out of the gate.

Many of you are familiar with Traqmate, POV.1 and GoPro. They are all Standard Definition, although GoPro released their new HD version recently.

Their footage is barely suitable for YouTube, let alone DVD or professional
production.

If the GoPro was easier to use, less square (which is a big factor with the wind at 140mph) and had an easier to use operation, I might be enticed. But they don't. That, and their car mount is flimsy and difficult to operate so for me, I am not a GoPro fan.

For me, the obvious choice is the Contour HD (which just released a version that records an even bigger, higher resolution picture). It's called the ContourHD 1080p. They also offer a boat load of accessories and mounting options, including their suction cup mount which I've personally tested up to 150mph.

The great thing about the Contour is that if the lens gets sand blasted (which happens on track days), you can swap the lens cover in seconds. Try that with a GoPro. For me, the Contour is the ideal solution and we have 6-9 ready to use at any time.

The camera has it's ideal operating conditions, in that it works better in good light and with a fisheye lens, it's good at capturing all the action, but at the very fringes of the picture, there is distortion. Not a big deal, but it is a characteristic inherent to any camera using an aggressive fisheye lens. I compensate by blowing the picture up to remove the fringes. With the 1080p, that provides greater flexibility to do exactly
that.

The other drawback is that there is no viewfinder....but since the camera is wide angle and includes a built in pointing laser, all you have to do is aim the camera in the general direction and you'll pick up the action. Think of it like a shotgun...just aim in the general direction and you're golden.

CONSUMER CAMERAS
We've been through a ton of them. What we ruled out early on is that ANY camcorder that writes to a DVD or to a hard drive will simply not work in for automotive racing footage. Don't even THINK about one of those, because the vibration will produce zero video footage...nothing, nada, zip. Trust us.

Cameras that write to tapes (DV) are nearly as bad. They simply will not produce stable images.

For this reason, all of the cameras I'm recommending write to some sort of storage media card which are a) inexpensive and b) make transferring the files a snap.

Again, no reason to go with standard definition as HDV cameras are the same price nowadays.

With that said, we found that a slim profile camera that has the ability for us to screw on a lens protector offered the best solution.

After tons of experimentation, we found the Sanyo HD1010. With a wide range of lens options and a slim design and affordable price, we found that adding this as an interior camera or rearward facing camera for the exterior works well.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search...tialSearch=yes

The next step up is this bad boy. Works very well, but it uses a funky memory stick. Not a big deal, just a consideration.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Handycam.html

After this step, you start getting into cameras that are $900 and up...and there's simply no need.

Here's what the Pros use:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search...tialSearch=yes

Simply put, it's overkill and I wouldn't want one of these strapped to the outside of a car...especially if there's an incident.

Here's an example of using several different styles of cameras blended together to take one sequence. See if you can spot the differences in clarity and stability.

GTR BATTLE: The Movie from Craig Lieberman on Vimeo.

AUDIO
Everyone says the same thing: "it's hard to get good audio from my car."

Yup. That's a fair summation. There's a reason, though. No matter what camera you use, if you hang a microphone in a breeze, you're not going to get audio. When I worked on the set of "Fast and Furious," you would not believe the lengths to which the sound pros would go to procure video.

The easiest, cheapest way is to buy the Sony I listed above, then buy an inexpensive wired microphone, then run the mic into the trunk of your car to pick up clean audio. Then of course, you have to sync the audio with your video...good luck, novices.

The other trick is to mount the Sanyo inside your windshield, pointing back at you. Although there will be some wind noise, you should get some decent audio.

CAMERA MOUNTS:
Today's camera mounting solutions are rock solid and inexpensive. Buy a couple. Thank me later. With the Contour HD's, simply buy their mounts.

They work superbly.

With any other cameras, buy one of these:
http://www.filmtools.com/gripper-302...era-mount.html
http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-i...er-116-xl.html
http://www.autopowerindustries.com/cameramount.asp

I've tested them all, and they all work well.

DONT'S
Do NOT get suckered into buying a Sony Flip or any of those rectangular brick looking cameras. When you mount them on the outside of the car, the wind catches them and moves them around. They're useless except for interior mounts.

Do NOT let your suction cup devices get dirty or roll around in your car. Wrap the cups for protection when not in use and be sure to wipe down the body panel BEFORE you stick them onto your car.

MAKING YOUR VIDEO
There's so much to cover, I'll get to that in the next blog post. I'll cover filming angles and how to make your video files ready to share over the web.

If you've watched YouTube car videos, by and large, most of them feature videos with such poor resolution, they're almost unwatchable.

That's not just a function of bad cameras, it's a function of the software used to output the files and the settings the editor used when he output them.

Simply put, no matter how good your footage is, at some point, you're going to have to get away from Windows Movie Maker to output a file that offers no flexibility in it's resolution settings.

In the interim, if you take my advice and end up a bunch of footage and really want to edit something, contact me. I can provide that service.
The RTA group had a customer appreciation open track day that a few friends were going to. Terrence went out with me on my first session as I learned to feel my new tune and where the power was. Sliding all over the place on the first few laps but quickly realized the car has amazing torque out of the corners now!

Did a best of 1.25.815 on my first session which I'm told is okay. I know I went faster later in the day when there was less traffic on the track but during that session the timers were down, blast that old system! RTA was also testing a new system using RFID which was working well, unfortunately the guy testing was packing up during that session as well. So until next time Streets!

I grabbed some clips throughout the day when I wasn't on track, here is the compilation.

Speed Ventures Fontana Speedway ROVAL Track weekend

Friday November 20th was the first of a three day weekend at Fontana with Speed Ventures. My hope was to break my previous best lap time of 1:59.1xx that I got the previous weekend at the RTA open track day. This was my third trip to this track and my third track day ever. My best lap my first track day August 16, 2009, was 2:09.xxx.

Since it was a Friday, the showing was pretty light. However, since there was no novice group, the first-timers were put in my group, low-intermediate (blue). There were 15 drivers. The traffic was such that I could not get more than one or two hot laps in per session, and couldn't really get into a rhythm. My instructor was getting frustrated, as well. My best time for the first two sessions was 2:00.xxx.

It turned out there was also an exotic/limited car count group that I was able to switch over to for a fee, which I gladly paid. This turned out to be a great investment.

Now in a group with reasonably good drivers with pretty fast cars (not Honda Civics spinning out in front of me or a Shelby oblivious to a certain GT-R on his tail for two laps until he got the blue flag), and pretty well spaced out, I was able to get a good number of hot laps in. My first session in that group I got three sequential 1:57.xxx's, followed by a 1:56.7xx. This was not the fastest lap time of the day for the exotic group, but it would have been in the blue group!

I was still braking too early in a few corners, so I fine tuned that the next day, when I was moved up to the mid-intermediate (purple) group.

This time, I had a different instructor who had a few different suggestions. These were more tweaks rather than major changes that the previous day's instructor instilled. He only rode for one session, however. After sorting through all the recommendations, my own style was starting to gel. My best time for the day was 1:55.425, and the fastest of the day in the purple group. They moved me up to the high-intermediate (black) group for the next day.

This final day I was hoping to get into the 1:54's, as that was my goal for the weekend. However, 3/4 of the way through my first session my car suddenly lost a lot of power. Not knowing what was going on and knowing that the car had to get me home 1 1/2hours away, I called it quits. I was satisfied knowing how close I was to a sub-1:55 time. Fortunately, this ultimately turned otu to be a bad cat, which the manufacturer covered.

At 1:55, I can do better. After reviewing my experience in my head, I know where I can gain at least 6 seconds. First, I should be able to enter the NASCAR turn without braking. Entering the corner at 150 instead of 120 and letting 150 scrub off should yield at least two to three seconds. Secondly, after turn six, I only accelerate to 100 and hold it there for the chicane. I should be able to take that chicane at 120. Finally, the final turn before entering the long straight I've been entering at redline in 3rd. I should be entering in 4th and then should have a higher than 150 top speed at the end of the straight.

Then I have to reassess my balls in the NASCAR turn once again. :)

I'll get to test my ideas January 16 and 17th!

So you're a gold chain-wearing, hairy chested Goomba with a Corvette fetish and a small penis. What do you do? Challenge everyone to a race, of course.

Joel Feingold is none of those things...but he did challenge everyone to race his Vette...on a private runway.

Problem was, Joel's Vette is a ringer. 810 hp AT THE WHEELS (dyno sheet in hand, nay sayers).

Our humble little production company was asked to film, edit and produce the piece that consisted of LP640, Enzo, GTR, Ford GT and other challengers trying to dethrone the King of all Goombas.

The DVD can be purchased for $14 through www.runwaytitans.com

No, I don't get a commission....but the DVD is worth it for no other reason than the Asian hottie who has a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction! Sheck it out.

Anyone who knows me knows that I haven't been a domestic car guy since the mid 1990's. I'm not an elitist, just a phase-ist (one who goes through phases in life). I am currently in my Euro Trash/Asian fetish phase, meaning that I bang gears in European cars and well, I bang Asian girls. Well, at least I try to.

Nevertheless, I AM a fan of ALL fast cars and Vettes are no exception. Sure, their interiors are bland and a bit spartan and the fit and finish is arguably not up to European car standards, but these cars haul ass. A few tweaks to a C6 and you've got a nice performing car. A few tweaks to a Z06 and you have a monster. As evidence to the Vette's performance and reliability, I submit example A:

Nissan GTR Spec V in Forza Holiday Download Pack!

The Hot Holidays DLC Car pack is almost here...whoooo!!! After weeks of teasing and spy shots we’ve finally revealed the entire car pack with our official Hot Holidays DLC video. Check it out and get pumped, cuz these babies can be yours in Forza Motorsport 3 tomorrow! Last I’ve heard the DLC will be available for download tomorrow afternoon (PST) so get your MS points together (this pack costs 400 points) and treat yourself to an early Christmas present with some Forza 3 hotness!

I hope you all enjoyed our “Spy Shot” week here on Forzamotorsport.net and congratulations to everyone who correctly deciphered the images. I have to say I can’t believe how quickly some of you picked up on these rides. Absolutely incredible! I’ll be honing my 'super secret spy shot skills' for future use ;)

If you haven’t heard we’re also cracking down hard on those of you who abused the credit glitch that was recently fixed with our last title update. Those of you who read our site regularly will know we put together an amnesty program to allow those of you who glitched credits a way to come clean and give them back. This was a huge success and we we’re able to drain a huge amount of credits from our online ecosystem, so a big thank you to everyone who came clean and returned their illegitimate credits. That said our amnesty program has been shut down and we’re dropping the hammer on those of you who didn’t participate this week. More details to come.

The mighty 2010 Nissan GTR SpecV; one of ten amazing machines available in the Hot Holidays DLC Pack!

For now check out the new DLC video and get pumped to rock the 2010 Nissan GTR Spec-V and Ferrari 599XX in Forza Motorsport 3! We’ll be hosting a slew of competitions around the new DLC later this week, so keep an eye on the General Discussion section of our forums for a new thread breakin’ it all down!
OCRC now hosts a very friendly roster of events at MCAS El Toro. I attended one a couple of months ago and whipped up a little video that night showcasing two cars.
